Motenashi Kuroki is known for their clear chicken broth and the best flavour is shio (salt). They use 6 different types of salt for their broth! I was never a fan of clear broth because I thought it’s bland but this was honestly one of the best ramen I’ve had. (Order from the top row).

The flat style noodles are made in house with some sort of powder from Hokkaido. The toppings isn’t your typical chashu, it’s actually chicken chashu, slices of slow roasted pork and some has shrimp wontons too.

On Fridays only, Motenashi Kuroki turns into Murasaki Kuroki 紫 くろ喜. They only serve a duck shoyu ramen  so it makes you go back to try both their styles. I still haven’t had a chance to go back on Fridays to try the duck shoyu but it looks epic. So if you have a geeky boyfriend that spend days at Akihabara, you can certainly walk over to this ramen shop! Expect a line up since it’s popular amongst locals and they only have 13 counter seats.

Jikabaisenkohibon is a hole in the wall. We literally walked by this place many times and missed the entrance completely. But once you find the entrance and go downstairs you’ll find a hidden gem. The decor in this coffee shop is absolutely stunning! I highly recommend to sit by the bar so you can see the whole collection of tea cups behind the glass display.

There’s a list of English Tea, hot and iced coffee to choose from along with a few cake selection. And of course, their most popular cake is the Strawberry cake. My friend is a coffee addict and he loved this place. Great coffee, tasty cake and beautiful decor!

It could get a little tricky if you need to visit the bathroom. When you’re at the end of the restaurant, you’ll see a bookshelf, the bathroom is right behind it. How cool is that?! Overall, it’s a great experience to visit this coffee shop even if you’re not a coffee addict.

I’ve decided to start brand new with my blog and just strictly blog about Japan because I love it so much! I’ve been to a few places in Japan so far:

. Tokyo . Yokohama . Fujikawaguchiko . Osaka . Kyoto . Kobe . Tsuruga . Fukui . Kanazawa . Shirakawa-go . Takayama . Shiga .  Hiroshima . Beppu . Fukuoka . Shimonoseki .  Kitakyushu . Kokura . Shizuoka . Nishiizu . Izu . Yugawara . Atami . Sapporo . Otaru . Niseko .

When I was planning for my first trip, I was overwhelmed because there’s so much to see, a ton of things I want to eat but limited time! I really wanted to maximize my time there so I planned everything in the most efficient way possible.

01

I made a whole PowerPoint presentation because there’s no better way to show my boyfriend what I want to do and why I wanted to go there. I save the screenshots on my phone so when I travel, I can reference back to the pictures and see my itinerary.

03

I use Google Maps and pin all the locations  I want to go so when I’m there, I click the icon and it’ll teach me how to get there. It’s super convenient and I highly recommend it! I’ve been doing some customized Japan trip planning and I’d love to share some of my adventures on my blog. =)

Takamaru is a seafood izakaya right across from Nishishinjuku Mystays Hotel and it’s always packed. This place is famous for their generous portions of thick cut sashimi platters and very reasonably priced! They would serve whatever’s fresh or in season so each time we went back, the platter’s a little different. Aside from sashimi, they also serve hot foods like Oden.

Second picture on the top left hand corner has 3 options and our guess is small, medium and large sashimi platter based on the price range. If you’re not sure what to order, you can always ask, “O susume?” means “What do you recommend?” Second picture is their sake menu and it’s reasonably priced and beer is of course cheap here too.

Takamaru’s lunch menu is known for these buckets listed on the right hand side of the menu. You can order individually or if you order all 3 for ¥2980! We ordered an extra order of uni for ¥1000 and an order of charcoal grilled shrimps. Takamaru’s a hidden gem and I love how local it is, really gives you the local Japanese experience. Highly recommend this place for lunch and dinner!
